REQUIREMENTS FOR ELIGIBILITY OF PRIZE WINNERS UNDER THE WAEC ENDOWMENT FUND
1. BRIEF HISTROY
The Endowment Fund was inaugurated during the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Council in Monrovia, Liberia, in March 1982. The objectives of the Fund are to promote educational development projects of an international nature, provide awards for outstanding contributions to the Council’s work, and give prizes for outstanding performance by candidates in the examinations conducted by the Council. Consequently, the Merit, Excellence, and the National Distinction Awards were established.
The Endowment Fund is administered by a 12-member Board of Trustees which exercises general direction over the Fund and in particular, examines and approves proposed projects. The Board is made up of the Chairman of Council, leaders of the five-Country Delegations, one distinguished personality from each member country and the Registrar to the Council.
2. CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY OF PRIZE WINNERS FOR
(1) EXCELLENCE AWARD
(a) Candidates must obtain grade 1 in at least six subjects, which shall include English Language, Mathematics, one Science subject, one General subject and in any two elective subjects;
(b) Candidates must obtain a minimum of grade 6 in any other subject opted for on the examination; and
(c) Candidates must have passed the examination without any hint of impropriety at first sitting.
( 2) MERIT AWARD
(a) Candidate must pass in six subjects from the four subject groups of which English Language and Mathematics are compulsory subjects;
(b) Candidates must obtain a grade not lower than 1 in English Language and not lower than 2 in Mathematics;
(c) Candidates must obtain credit in the General and Science subjects required for the certificate and pass in all subjects opted for on the examination with an aggregate score of not more than 24; and
(d) Candidates must have passed the examination without any hint of impropriety at first sitting.
(3) LIBERIA NATIONAL AWARD
(a) Candidates must obtain a grade not lower than 3 in English Language and Mathematics;
(b) Candidates must pass six subjects from the required four subject groups;
(c) Candidate must have passed with credit (Grades 4,5 or 6) in 4 subjects including General and Science subjects required for the award of certificate as well as obtain an aggregate score of not more than 36;
(d) Candidates must have passed the examination without any hint of impropriety at first Sitting.
